Williamsburg Kiwanis Club to reorganize with meeting Thursday (Oct. 20)

Date:

Like many organizations during the COVID pandemic, the Williamsburg Kiwanis Club suffered a loss of membership and a decline in community activities.

The club was chartered in 1981 to serve and provide opportunities to the youth of Williamsburg and Whitley County. As a chartered community service organization, the Williamsburg Kiwanis Club is seeking new members to continue its tradition of serving youth.

The Williamsburg Kiwanis Club will be holding an informational meeting this Thursday, Oct. 20, from noon to 1 p.m. at Sabor Latino Mexican restaurant, which is located in the Cumberland Regional Mall.

Potential members need to be at least 18 years of age and have a sincere interest in helping our local youth. This meeting will kick-off the 2022-23 Kiwanis Club calendar year.

Continuing activities  of the Williamsburg Kiwanis Club during the pandemic included providing funds to the local school systems for their annual Christmas projects and providing scholarships to graduating seniors at Williamsburg and Whitley County high schools.

In the past the Williamsburg Kiwanis Club has provided funds to the city of Williamsburg to assist in the updating of the city park playground, Briar Creek playground, and the skateboard park.

Until the pandemic, the Williamsburg Kiwanis Club also presented the annual National Day of Prayer Breakfast on the first Thursday of May, which it is hoping to resume in May of 2023.
