Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies attempting to serve a parole violation warrant at a residence outside of Williamsburg early Wednesday morning, arrested two people on a charge of trafficking heroin.

Wendel F. Malone, 46, of Williamsburg, and Dena B. Baird, 31 were arrested on charges of trafficking in a controlled substance – heroin, and possession of drug paraphernalia after deputies reported locating what they described as a large amount of heroin in a pill bottle and in a folded dollar bill, $1,770 in cash, hypodermic needles, empty bags with heroin residue, and a set of digital scales.

Deputy Sgt. Jonas Saunders stated in the arrest citation that deputies had gone to the residence at 359 Elmer Walker Road, off of Ky. 204, at approximately 12:40 a.m. to serve the warrant on Malone.

Saunders stated in the arrest citation that after deputies knocked on the door, they looked through the window and determined that the suspect lying on a bed was Malone.

Deputies made entry and took Malone into custody on the warrant.

Baird was found in the bedroom with Malone.

Saunders said deputies located the drugs, cash and paraphernalia while searching the home as part of the arrest.

Malone and Baird were both lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
