Seventy-five 4-H age youth and 18 adult and teen counselors participated in 4-H camping programs at the JM Feltner Memorial 4-H Camp near London during June 10-13. The campers were joined by over 120 campers and leaders from McCreary, Knox, and Rockcastle counties.
The campers were offered 22 different activities to participate in ranging from traditional activities such as canoeing, swimming, nature riflery, and archery to rocketry, fun foods, GPS, and advanced woodworking. Evening activities included field games, water Olympics, dancing, and campfire stories.
The theme for the week was “Super Hero League” with one afternoon designated as “Hero Day” in which the Laurel County Fire Department, Air Evac Emergency Helicopter Services, and Officer Coy Wilson of the Corbin Police Department K-9 Unit presented safety and career programs related to their jobs.
4-H Camp is an annual event offered each summer to youth throughout Kentucky and is offered at four different regional locations throughout the state. For more information about 4-H Camp, contact your local UK County Extension Office or the Whitley County Extension Office at 549-1430.
