Whitley County Health Department inspections

As part of its duties, the Whitley County Health Department conducts routine public health inspections of various entities, including restaurants, stores, schools, mobile home parks, swimming pools, etc.

School Inspections

• Corbin Elementary School, 706 S. KY Ave., Corbin – 100. Oct. 8 regular inspection.

• Corbin Educational Center, 901 S. Main St., Corbin – 100. Oct. 9 regular inspection.

• Corbin School of Innovation, 800 S. KY Ave., Corbin – 100. Oct. 9 regular inspection.

• Whitley County Central Primary School, 520 Blvd. of Champs, Williamsburg – 100. Oct. 20 regular inspection.

• Whitley County Alternative School, 351 Blvd. of Champs, Williamsburg – 100. Oct. 21 regular inspection.

• Whitley County Middle School, 350 Blvd. of Champs, Williamsburg – 98. Oct. 21 regular inspection. Comments: floor tile in football locker room is missing tiles and grout.

• Whitley County Central Intermediate School, 2940 N HWY 25W, Williamsburg – 100. Oct. 22 regular inspection.

• Oak Grove Elementary School, 4505 Falls HWY, Corbin – 100. Oct. 23 regular inspection.

• Corbin Area Technology Center, 1909 S. Snyder St., Corbin – 100. Oct. 28 regular inspection.

• Faith Christian Academy, 2352 Redbird Rd., Williamsburg – 100. Oct. 29 regular inspection.

• Whitley County High School, 250 Blvd. of Champs, Williamsburg – 94. Oct. 31 regular inspection. Comments: faucet leaking room 220A (men’s room faucet no cold water); basketball concession ice machine has buildup of mold-like substance; basketball concession Pepsi cooler heavily soiled and has mold-like growth; expansion tank leaking gym mechanical room.

• Holiday Inn Express, 56 W. HWY 92, Williamsburg – 100. Oct. 16 other inspection.

• Hampton Inn, 530 HWY 92W, Williamsburg – 100. Oct. 24 other inspection.

Food Establishments

• Granny’s Iron, 9209 HWY 26, Rockholds – food service: 78 retail: 98. Sept. 18 regular inspection. Comments: food service – missing food manager and food handler certifications; sausage gravy left out to thaw on top of refrigerator (attracting gnats; not fit for consumption); inside of ice machine has mold-like growth; crock-pot warmer internally temped food at 128 degrees (must be 135 degrees or warmer); not using date marking practice for TCS foods requiring refrigeration; not using proper thawing method to thaw sausage gravy; soiled wiping cloths laying on sanitary surface; employees observed doning gloves without washing hands first; 3-C sink missing signs for “wash, rinse, sanitize”; dishes set to dry laying on soiled wet towel; missing sanitizer test strips for quat; evidence of mice in multiple areas of the kitchen and back room; employees not wearing proper hair covering. Retail – evidence of mice in several areas on retail side. Follow-up inspection required.

• Granny’s Iron, 9209 HWY 26, Rockholds – food service: 88 retail: 100. Sept. 29 follow-up inspection. Comments: missing food manager and food handler certifications; crock-pot warmer internally temped food at 115 degrees (must be 135 degrees or warmer); not using date marking practice (improvement since Sept. 18); not using proper thawing method to thaw sausage gravy; soiled wiping cloths laying on sanitary surface; 3-C sink was missing signs, dishes set to dry laying on soiled wet towel; missing sanitizer test strips for quat; employee not wearing proper hair restraints. Follow-up inspection required.

• Granny’s Iron, 9209 HWY 26, Rockholds – food service: 93 retail: 100. Oct. 9 follow-up inspection. Comments: missing food manager and food handler certifications; not using proper thawing method; soiled wiping cloths laying on sanitary surface; 3-C sink was missing signs, dishes set to dry laying on soiled wet towel; missing sanitizer test strips for quat; employee not wearing proper hair restraints.

• Corbin Educational Center, 901 S. Main St., Corbin – 99. Oct. 9 regular inspection. Comments: handle of serving utensils in the food.
