“I want to say how proud I am of our Last Illusion cast and their third place win,” said Whitley County Drama teacher David Sweet.
He noted that the students had to overcome last minute cast changes and technical glitches, but persevered.
“This is an outstanding cast with so much talent who found out that sometimes one must to dig deeply to find the best in one’s self,” Sweet said. “I also am so grateful and humbled by the support I have from our parents, our administration, our drama friends and my personal family. This show would have been impossible without you. I am also grateful for the EKDAS family. We are so fortunate to have so much dedication to the craft of theatre in the mountains that is now receiving even more recognition.”
Sweet noted that the competition was close with two points separating first, second and third place.
The cast performed “The Last Illusion” by B. Dwayne Craft for the competition.
The story follows the famous magician Harry Houdini during his final show on Oct. 31, 1926. Flashbacks tell his story as his life tick, tick, ticks away in the water chamber for which he was so famous.
The performance featured some of Houdini’s actual illusions.
