Corbin Police say a man who believed he was going to meet someone at Mountain View Lodge about a house for rent, was instead beaten and robbed by three individuals Friday.
The three people allegedly involved in the robbery, who have been identified as Loren Fox, 28, of Gray, Christopher Moore, 33, of Corbin and Christopher Surgener, 28 of Barbourville, pleaded not guilty to second-degree robbery at their arraignments Tuesday in Whitley District Court and are each being held on a $25,000 cash bond.
Police were called to the hotel on Cumberland Falls Hwy. about 8 p.m. in response to a complaint of a potential robbery and assault in progress.
When officers arrived they found the victim, Wesley Varga of Corbin.
"He said he had gone to meet someone about a home for rent and when he got there, three people jumped him," said Corbin Police Detective-Sgt. Rusty Hedrick.
He was familiar with the three," he said.
Varga told police the robbers had taken $1,000 in cash.
Following a short investigation by Det. Bill Rose, Fox, Moore and Surgener were taken into custody and brought to the Corbin Police Department for questioning.
"Each of them is pointing fingers at the others," Hedrick said when asked if the suspects had made any statements.
The money was found in Fox’s underwear. Hedrick said it totaled $830.
"They are saying that is all there was," Hedrick said.
Rose is continuing the investigation. Hedrick said at this time there is nothing to indicate other individuals may have been involved. It appears to be an isolated incident.
