The Corbin Tourism Commission has new full-time assistant, October Fest set for Oct. 11

Date:

The Corbin Tourism Commission appointed a new Tourism Assistant during a special-called meeting on Aug. 22.

April Schweiss has accepted the position of Corbin Tourism Assistant.

In addition, Schweiss serves as the Market Manager for the Whitley County Farmers’ Market.

She also has a background in selling vibrant artwork, showcasing her paintings under the name “April Drew It” on Facebook. In her “About” section, she describes herself as an illustrator of colorful, cute critters, whimsical worlds, and heartfelt messages.

Emily Roberts, the Interim Executive Director of Corbin Tourism, stated that hiring a new assistant would provide her with support, as discussed during their regular meeting on Aug. 12.

“She will be helping with greeting visitors and tourists, as well as helping with administrative duties and clerical duties,” said Roberts. “She would help assist on projects.”

Schweiss described being hired as “exciting” and said her goals were to “do a good job and help people see everything there is to love about Corbin.”

Roberts mentioned she was “super excited” about the hiring of Schweiss, saying she was a “great asset” to Corbin Tourism.

Currently, the Corbin Tourism Commission is planning for October Fest, which will take place on October 11. They are partnering with the Cumberland Valley Cruise-In and the Whitley County Farmers’ Market for the event.

The Cumberland Valley Cruise-In will have “hundreds of stunning classic cars, muscle machines, and sleek motorcycles.” Whitley County Farmers’ Market will have “local produce, homemade treats, handmade crafts, and unique finds,” according to the Facebook event post.

Roberts mentioned there would be a bounce house at Nibroc Park, a petting zoo, and kids’ games, stating, “it’ll be a day of family-fun and celebration of the fall season”.

October Fest will highlight local businesses, and Roberts has sent invitations to Main Street and downtown businesses, emphasizing, “I think it is important to support them and help drive business to them. We would love to partner with them. The more, the merrier! If we can get everyone involved in the festivities, it will make the event even more special.”

Schweiss noted this is a “wonderful opportunity to collaborate with our local businesses.”

She also stated her role in assisting October Fest was helping set up the new website they will be using called Eventeny, which will help with managing vendor applications, and also plans on helping with securing vendor spots, and helping design the layout.
