Several events planned this weekend and early next week in Williamsburg

Date:

Williamsburg is kicking off its event calendar this weekend with two events area residents are sure to enjoy.

The annual community Easter egg hunt is being held this Saturday at Briar Creek Park. There will be multiple hunts held in staggered age groups so as to be fair to those who are hunting eggs. The Easter Bunny will be on hand as well for photos.

Food and drink will be available at the event. The hunt begins at noon.

Later that same day, Pops in the Park will be held at the Green Space on Main.

This year’s musical entertainment will feature the jazz fusion collective Subtle Changes. Based out of Louisville, the collective’s Facebook page claims that they use a blend of intricate rhythms, smooth melodies and experimental vibes to create a sound that’s both innovative and captivating.

The event begins at 6 p.m. and is scheduled to end at 8 p.m.

Those who plan to attend may bring lawn chairs and are encouraged to patronize one of the local downtown eateries. Food and drink can be brought back to the Green Space for the event.

Pops in the Park will be the first event held at the Green Space on Main since it was revamped over the past few weeks. The lawn was leveled out and has recently been resodded with a new layer of grass.

Mayor Roddy Harrison said Monday that the new sod requires a lot of water to take root, so the lawn could still be wet during Saturday’s event.

Additionally, the Whitley County UK Cooperative Extension Office will be holding their 11th annual Earth Day Celebration next Tuesday at the Green Space on Main. There will be a variety of vendors set up during the event and a number of family-friendly activities.

The Earth Day Celebration will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. See the advertisement on page A-16 of this week’s edition for additional details.
