Probated 5-year sentence recommended for W’burg man accused of imprisoning, assaulting woman

Date:

Prosecutors have recommended a probated five-year prison sentence for a Williamsburg man, who was accused of imprisoning a woman and assaulting her earlier this year.

According to court records, on Sept. 9, Ronnie Smith, 45, entered an Alford plea in Whitley Circuit Court to charges of first-degree unlawful imprisonment, fourth-degree assault and violation of a Kentucky Emergency Protective Order (E.P.O.)/Domestic Violence Order (D.V.O.).

An Alford plea means that Smith still maintains his innocence but acknowledges that prosecutors likely had enough evidence to convict him at trial. The plea agreement was conditional upon the victim recanting her statement.
