Police say two New Jersey men accused of robbing a downtown Corbin drug store last Tuesday are also suspects in numerous similar incidents.
John P. Dutkiewicz, 31, and Gary Lloyd, 29, were arrested less than half an hour after allegedly robbing Cottongim drug store at gunpoint. According to Corbin Police Captain Tim Helton, the men took 7,800 pills of assorted narcotics.
“They took Oxycontins, morphine, Tylenol III, Lorcet, Percocet, Valium, stuff like that,” he said.
Police say Lloyd entered the pharmacy between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. and brandished a weapon at employees. He stuffed the numerous prescription pills into a black bag and jumped into a four-door Honda Civic driven by Dutkiewicz who sped away from the scene.
They were caught on southbound I-75 near mile marker 24 during a traffic stop. Lloyd was discovered in the trunk of the vehicle armed with a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun and a large black bag containing the pills.
Helton said Lloyd also took a money bag and a cigar-box full of receipts in an attempt to take money. There was no cash in either the box or the bag.
Both were charged with first-degree robbery. Additionally, Lloyd was charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
“They are suspects in some [other robberies], but they haven’t been tied into any yet,” Helton said. He would not give the location of those robberies but did say they were committed in a similar fashion and involved drug stores.
Police say both men were just passing through the area.
