Multiple local and regional events planned for the coming weeks and have been postponed or cancelled in the effort to decrease the potential to spread coronavirus.
Rotary International Dinner cancelled
At Thursday’s weekly meeting of the Corbin Rotary Club, officials announced the annual Rotary International Dinner scheduled for March 28 at The Arena would be cancelled.
Officials noted that seven of the 30 people who had planned to prepare dishes for the event, had cancelled.
After speaking with representatives from the London Rotary Club, which co-hosts the event, officials said it was determined the best course of action was to cancel.
While the two clubs take turns hosting the event, an agreement was reached to allow Corbin to host the 2021 event at The Arena.
Rotary officials will be in contact with those who had already purchased tickets to offer refunds.
Leadership Tri–County Banquet postponed
Officials with Leadership Tri-County announced Thursday that the March 24 annual banquet in Barbourville has been postponed.
Corbin businessman John Bill Keck was to be honored as Leader of the Year at the event.
“We will continue to monitor the situation and heed the warning of health professionals as we look to establish a date in the future,” officials stated in the announcement.
Whitley County Colonel Players spring performance postponed
Whitley County Colonels Player Director David Sweet announced that the spring performance of “Alibis,” scheduled for March 20 and 21 has been postponed until classes resume in April.
The new performance dates are April 17 and 18.
“All tickets that have already been sold will be honored for these performances in April,” Sweet stated in the announcement.
Sweet noted that the Colonel Players’ next scheduled production, “Squirrel Girl Goes to College,” will also be rescheduled the date for that is to be determined.
Hiking for a Paws orientation
Knox Whitley Humane Association officials said Friday that the planned orientation for volunteers wishing to participate in the Hiking for a Paws hikes with the shelter dogs, will be held as scheduled Saturday.
The orientation will be at 11 a.m. at the shelter located on Busy Lane off of Fifth Street Road in Corbin.
The orientation was to be followed by a hike. However, officials have postponed the hike until Sunday.
Officials noted the hike is being postponed because of the weather forecast and not the coronavirus.
Hiking for a Paws Organizer Christian Mansfield said anyone that would like to participate in the hikes must first attend an orientation. Saturday will be the last opportunity for the foreseeable future as the planned April orientation has been cancelled.

Cumberland Falls State Park remains open
Cumberland Falls State Resort Park officials said the park and the lodge both remain open to visitors.
The next planned event at the park is the Cumberland Falls Storytelling Festival March 20 through 22.
Officials said that event remains on the schedule.

The Cumberland Falls Spring Cleanup on March 28 has been cancelled.
PRIDE officials are encouraging residents to take the opportunity to get out and pick up litter in their neighborhood, noting the organization would be happy to provide suppies to any groups that would like to continue pickups on their own.
