Kosair for Kids pledges $2 million toward neonatal intensive care units at Baptist Health Corbin, Lexington

Date:

As part of a continued partnership centered on care for Baptist Health’s tiniest patients and their families, Kosair for Kids is investing $2 million to support neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) enhancements at Baptist Health Corbin and Baptist Health Lexington with the two hospitals each receiving $1 million.

“We are not only honored to receive this investment in care but also grateful for the continued partnership we’ve built with Kosair for Kids,” said Roy Lowdenback, Baptist Health system vice president of philanthropy. “As Kentucky’s largest nonprofit health system, also serving southern Indiana, Baptist Health ranks first in the number of births across the commonwealth. The demand for these services continues to grow and this latest investment positions us to meet that need while continuing a legacy of clinical excellence and compassionate care.”

In recognition of the support, the NICUs will be named in honor of Kosair for Kids.

“All babies deserve a chance at a hopeful future,” said Barry Dunn, Kosair for Kids president and CEO. “For generations, Kosair for Kids has delivered on a promise to help children in all of Kentucky and southern Indiana. We are proud to continue this legacy through the work done by our partners at Baptist Health, who will give families the care they need, closer to home.”

Baptist Health Corbin will relocate its current NICU to a larger space within the hospital while creating private rooms for its 10 NICU beds. Construction is slated to begin in 2027 after the completion of the hospital’s current 80,000-square-foot patient care wing project.

“Kosair for Kids’ generosity will make a lasting difference for families in our region. This investment allows us to expand our NICU and create private, family-centered spaces where our smallest patients can receive the advanced care they deserve. We are deeply grateful for a partnership that strengthens our mission and supports every baby who begins their journey with us,” said Angelia Foster, president of Baptist Health Corbin.

Baptist Health Lexington will be supported through equipment upgrades including but not limited to monitors, incubators, neonatal ventilators, infant light therapy, infusion pumps, humidifiers, blood glucose analyzers, bottle warmers and carts.

In addition to this investment, Kosair for Kids is donating $3 million to NICUs at Baptist Health Louisville who will receive $2 million and Baptist Health Floyd (located in southern Indiana) who will receive $1 million. Funds will support renovations and expanded capacity at these locations, allowing for increased patient volumes and more accommodating spaces.
