Knox Co. woman killed in single-vehicle wreck

Date:

A Knox County woman was pronounced dead at Baptist Health Corbin Monday morning from injuries she received in a single-vehicle crash.

Tammy Hale, 51, of Girdler was travelling north on U.S. 25E about 5:35 a.m  when she lost control of her Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV at the intersection with Ky. 233.

The vehicle, crossed the median, went airborne and overturned multiple times, ejecting her.

Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley said the woman was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Traffic on south U.S. 25E was rerouted for more than two hours as emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.

Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Mikey Ashurst is investigating the incident.

Deputy William Stewart, the department’s public affairs officer said a blood sample has been taken to test for the presence of drugs and/or alcohol.

"That is standard procedure," Stewart emphasized. "There was nothing found in the vehicle."

West Knox Fire Department and Knox County EMS also responded to the scene.
