KBC celebrates Baptist’s 100th Anniversary with blood drive

Date:

Baptist Health is celebrating 100 years of service with 100 days of service throughout the year at its healthcare locations. The celebration continues in December with a Kentucky Blood Center blood drive in Corbin. KBC is Baptist Heath’s exclusive blood provider.

As one of the most common procedures in a hospital – one in seven patients admitted to a hospital receive blood – blood donations have played a critical role in Baptist Health’s 100-year history.

To celebrate those who have donated and saved lives, volunteers who give blood at this upcoming Baptist Health blood drive will receive a special-edition 100-year anniversary shirt from Baptist Health. Donors will also receive a KBC T-shirt (while supplies last).

Baptist Health Corbin will host the blood drive on Friday, Dec. 6, from 1-5 p.m. at the Trillium Center Gymnasium, which will be located at 1 Trillium Way, Corbin.

Consistent blood donation is essential to maintaining a healthy blood supply for Baptist Health and KBC’s 70-plus hospitals. Blood is an everyday need and cannot be manufactured. To serve local patients, donors must step up.

Blood collected will save the lives of patients in Kentucky, who require products for surgeries, diseases like cancer, traumas, organ transplants, premature births and more.

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org.

Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcome. To schedule a donation, visit kybloodcenter.org or call (800) 775-2522.

KBC is the largest independent, full-service, nonprofit blood center in Kentucky, and has been saving local lives since 1968. KBC provides services in 90 Kentucky counties and has donor centers in Lexington, Louisville, Frankfort, Pikeville, Somerset and the Tri-County area (Corbin).
