Help out a good cause while staying informed, plus a special thank you to advertisers

Date:

In case you weren’t already aware, we here at the News Journal are conducting a special holiday subscription food drive through December 23. It’s a great way to help some folks out this holiday season, while also helping yourself to a great deal on a subscription to the newspaper.

The guidelines are simple… just bring unexpired canned goods or non-perishable food items to our office, located at 215 N. Main Street in downtown Corbin. For every item that you drop off, you will receive a $1 discount on a new or renewal subscription. The only caveat is that there is a $10 limit on the discount. Feel free to bring in additional items if you wish, as we will be donating everything to area food pantries, but please know that we can only go up to $10 on the discount.

If you have looked in recent editions of the News Journal, or if you follow along with us on social media, then you have likely seen the special promotional ad that we have been distributing. It contains all of the specific details, but for now, just know that you can bring in ten cans of food, make sure someone gets a good meal this holiday season, and also receive a great deal on having the local news delivered to your door each week. Talk about a win-win-win!

Speaking of great deals, I wanted to take the opportunity this week to give another special shoutout to all of the local area businesses who continue to spend their advertising dollars with us. It is because of you that recent specials, such as this week’s high school basketball season preview, were able to make it into the hands of readers all over the local community, and beyond.

I say this often, but it doesn’t make it any less true – we are a small local business ourselves. We understand the importance of getting your money’s worth, and with that in mind, we always strive to offer something for everyone when it comes to advertising opportunities throughout the calendar year. If one option doesn’t work for you, then trust me, we have plenty of others. Just ask. We will be happy to assist.

Finally, this is a busy, busy time of year. Some even say that it is the “most wonderful time” of the year, and with good reason. You don’t have to look far to find opportunities for holiday fun. Whether you are a family, a couple, or just flying solo, there are plenty of things to do and see in the Corbin/Williamsburg area between now and Christmas.

For starters, the downtown Corbin Christmas parade will be taking place on Saturday, Dec. 6., starting at 7 p.m. The following week, on Saturday, Dec. 13, the annual parade in downtown Williamsburg will take place starting at 6 p.m.

If you plan on attending the parade in Williamsburg, then also consider going by the Whitley County Cooperative Extension office, located in downtown across from City Hall, beforethe big event kick off. Free holiday photos, hot cocoa and more will be offered. The pre-parade activities are slated to get underway at 3 p.m. and last until 5:30 p.m.

One more option to get you in the holiday spirit is Williamsburg Independent Schools’ annual “Christmas In a Small Town” program on Sunday, Dec. 14. Dinner is scheduled to be served at 1 p.m., followed by a free concert at 2:30 p.m. For more information, visit the Williamsburg Music Booster and Jacket Bands & Choirs page on Facebook.

However you choose to celebrate, here’s hoping your December will be merry and bright!
