Firefighters were called to the scene off of Ky. 1223 about noon.
“It was fully involved when we got here,” said West Knox Fire Chief Daryl Baker of the workshop owned by Leon Egner.
Baker explained that the workshop and the garage were separated by about two feet and that likely made the difference.
“It was trying really hard,” Baker said of the fire’s efforts to burn through the metal wall of the garage and get at the wood interior.
Firefighters needed about an hour to get the fire under control.
Egner said the building contained a variety of tools including an air compressor, pain gun and lawn mower.
The building had an electric furnace to provide heat and it is suspected that is where the fire started.
“Something probably fell down on the furnace,” Egner said, noting the furnace has been used as needed throughout the winter.
Lily firefighters were paged to stand by at Dorthae Pentecostal Church.
“A train reached the crossing just as we got there,” Baker said. “We asked for Lily to be paged because they may have been able to get to the scene sooner.”
No one was injured in the blaze.
