After this past weekend’s regional championship meets, a large group of coverage area runners are headed to the Kentucky Horse Park this Saturday, Nov. 1, to compete in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) Cross Country State Championships.
The Corbin Redhounds and Lady Hounds had a big day in Wayne County last Saturday, with both programs securing their latest Class 2A Region 5 championship titles and ensuring that all runners will make the trip to Lexington this Saturday.
Individual finishes for the Corbin boys team included:
• Kobe Dixon (3rd place in 17:33.01)
• Creed Davies (4th place in 17:54.07)
• Kaleb Terrell (6th place in 18:10.60)
• Eli Maynes (7th place in 18:14.89)
• Isaiah Curry (8th place in 18:24.75)
• Carson Price (14th place in 18:56.32)
• Kaiden Lankford (18th place in 19:12.31)
Tanner Logan was the top finisher for the Whitley County boys at the region meet, coming in 25th place with a time of 19:45.35. This was not enough to qualify him for the Class 2A state championship meet, however.
Corbin managed to come out on top of the girls’ Region 5 meet both as a team and individually, with Lady Hound Emma Massengill finishing ahead of the pack to secure the overall region championship title with a time of 19:57.50.
Massengill’s teammates finished as follows to secure the regional team championship:
• Hadley Elmore (6th place in 22:31.12)
• Jaycee Frye (8th place in 22:52.04)
• Emery Huffman (9th place in 23:18.10)
• Ember Lankford (14th place in 24:58.53)
• Mallory Bradshaw (31st place in 26:12.43)
• Kinley Terrell (55th place in 29:51.57)
Ashlen Douglas was the top finisher for Whitley County in the girls’ race, coming in 36th place with a time of 26:56.37.
This year’s Class A Region 6 cross country championships were decided in Morgan County over the weekend, and when all was said and done, both the Lynn Camp boys and girls teams had qualified for KHSAA State Championship competition, as well as the girls team from Williamsburg.
The Lynn Camp boys finished sixth place as a team, with Ethan Curry and Clayton White finishing in 20th and 21st place, respectively. Jason Carnes, Blake Brown, Cooper Mills, Ricky Smith and Carter Foley were also on the course for the Wildcats.
Meanwhile, the Williamsburg boys finished in ninth place as a team. Top finishers for the Yellow Jackets were Pascual White and Jack Brooks, who came in 27th and 31st place, respectively.
In the girls’ Region 6 race, the Lynn Camp Lady Cats came in third place thanks to the following individual finishes:
• Lauren Partin (9th place in 22:52.54)
• Addison Sagley (13th place in 23:39.06)
• Katie Mills (15th place in 23:59.04)
• Madison Weymers (22nd place in 24:36.15)
• Paige Smith (27th place in 25:30.45)
• Isabelle Cruz (32nd place in 26:41.03)
• Sadie Melton (37th place in 27:53.50)
The Williamsburg Lady Jackets finished in fifth place, with the following individual finishes contributing:
• Tatum Croley (4th place in 21:42.49)
• Addison Moore (16th place in 24:03.66)
• Abigail Workman (29th place in 25:33.09)
• Ashtyn Foley (31st place in 25:59.92)
• Marissa Meadors (35th place in 27:41.56)
• Kara Fuson (41st place in 31:00.22)
• Katherine Brown (48th place in 35:01.95)
See the Lynn Camp Wildcats and Lady Cats, as well as the Williamsburg Lady Jackets, compete in this year’s KHSAA Class A State Championships this Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. Start time for the boys’ race is set for 3 p.m. with the girls’ race to follow.
The KHSAA Class 2A championship meets featuring the Corbin Redhounds and Lady Hounds will take place at the Kentucky Horse Park earlier in the afternoon Saturday, with the boys’ race scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. and the girls’ race set for 1:15 p.m.
