DOUBLE HEADER DEFEATS
The Corbin Lady Redhounds lost a doubleheader Thursday in Somerset. Corbin lost to the Southwestern Lady Warriors, 3-1, and then fell hard to the Somerset Lady Jumpers, 12-2 in five innings.
In the first game against Southwestern Coach Chris Hart said, “We didn’t play very well tonight. Our hitting was not present and we just are making too many errors on defense. You will not beat good teams making five errors in a game.”
“I thought Hannah (Hart) pitched a good game, only giving up one earned run against a good Southwestern team.”
The Lady Warriors scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning, but Corbin tied the contest in the top of the fifth. Southwestern added two runs in the home half of the inning. The Lady Warriors held off Corbin to win, 3-1.
Lindsey Barton led the Lady Redhounds, going two-for-three with an RBI. Senior Kayla Kuhl had a double in the loss.
“We just weren’t ready to play a very good Somerset team,” said Hart. “They hit the ball really well and are very tough on defense. We still need to hit the ball better and we are going to work on that.”
Corbin took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on runs by Hart and Calli Hendrickson. Morgan Brock had a two-run double in the inning.
However, Somerset scored in every inning to pull away from the Lady Redhounds. Trailing 2-1, Somerset scored three runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good.
Corbin is scheduled to face Williamsburg in a make-up district game today at 5:30 p.m.
