With the flood waters having now receded, some area residents have begun the process of assessing the damage left behind last week’s heavy rainfall. For those who have sustained any property damage during the flooding, there is help available.
Whitley County Judge-Executive Pat White, Jr. told the News Journal late last week that much of the flooding events throughout the county were in areas that are prone to high water, so most were able to adequately prepare.
However, White said that he was aware of several people in the community that had issues during the flooding.
White issued a disaster declaration as a result of the high water, which allow for emergency aid funds to be disbursed for various damages. As of Friday, White said that the request for aid received by his office was still relatively small.
For that reason, White is asking anyone who sustained any type of property damage to reach out to his office at (606) 549-6000. Whitley County Emergency Management Director Jerry Rains can come out to help assess those damages and get them included in the request for aid.
