County decides to split trick-or-treat hours between Fri. and Sat.

Date:

When it comes to trick or treating, what is a county to do when each of its two cities are doing trick or treating on different nights? In the case of Whitley County, it is splitting the difference and when you trick or treat this year will depend upon where you live in the county.

If you live in the northern half of the county with a 40701 (Corbin) or 40771 (Woodbine) zip code, then you will trick or treat on Friday, Oct. 31, using Corbin’s trick or treat hours.

Downtown trick or treating on Main Street will take place from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 31, while residential trick or treating will take place from 6 – 8 p.m.

If you live in the southern half of the county with a 40769 (Williamsburg) zip code, a 40759 (Rockholds) zip code, and all other zip codes in the county, then you will trick or treat on Saturday (Nov. 1) with Williamsburg trick or treat hours.

Williamsburg has moved trick or treating to Saturday, Nov. 1, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. this year due to Williamsburg hosting a home football game Friday night against Knox Central, which is expected to bring a big contingent of fans. In addition, it will be senior night for Williamsburg.

Because the football stadium is between 10th and 11th streets, which are traditionally two of the biggest streets for trick or treating, Williamsburg Mayor Roddy Harrison said he thought it best to move trick or treating this year.

“After much debate and concern on how to handle this situation with the cities being divided on the trick or treat date, we feel this is the best option for the circumstances we’ve been given,” the Whitley County Fiscal Court announced Tuesday morning.
