Corbin rolls
The 4th Annual Cumberland Falls Lady Redhound Invitational got underway Tuesday night with the Upperman Lady Bees running their record to 15-1 win a 64-43 win over the North Laurel Lady Jaguars. In the second game, Corbin rolled past the Hazard Lady Bulldogs, 85-54.
Tonight’s action finds Williamsburg meeting Monroe County at 7:15, followed by Whitley County vs. River Ridge, Ga., at 9:15 p.m. The first-round losers from Tuesday night’s game will play at 5:30 p.m.North Laurel entered the tournament with a 3-8 record under first-year coach Eddie Mahan. The Lady Jaguars are coming off a 2-2 record in the Lady Pirate Holiday Classic in Berea. North Laurel lost to Conner 71-41 and Woodford County, 40-30. They came back to beat Madison Southern 58-31 and Presentation of Louisville, 61-45.
The Upperman Bees are from Baxter, Tn. They are coming a championship in the Mustang Invitational in St. Petersburg, Fla., where they beat Siegel of Murfreesboro, 24-21 in the title game.
The Lady Bees entered the Cumberland Falls Invitational with a record of 13-1. They are led by Taylor Randolph, Kat Carter and Klaudia Hull.
Corbin came into the tournament with a 5-4 record after playing in the Aspen Creek/Vision Eye Care Holiday Classic at Bullitt East High School. The Lady Redhounds were scheduled to play the 1-5 Lady Bulldogs of Hazard High School.
In the lower bracket, Williamsburg and coach Andrea Ellis will play Monroe County. The Lady Yellow Jackets are 4-5 and have been without leading scorer, Carissa Conlin. They were runner-up in the recent Bowman Classic at Lynn Camp.
The Lady Falcons of Monroe County will roll into Corbin with a 9-2 record. Monroe County played in the Republic Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic last week where they posted a 3-2 record. The Lady Falcons beat Murray (53-31), Simon Kenton (59-34) and Christian County (74-37), but lost to Louisville Central (50-26) and Louisville Butler (43-37).
Players to watch for the Lady Falcons are junior Madison Clements, senior Caylan Bybee and senior Skylar Turner.
In the second game Wednesday, the Whitley County Lady Colonels (5-6) will take on River Ridge, Ga. The Lady Colonels are led by senior Sierra Anderson, junior Bethany Powers and sophomores Brandi Smith, Kandace Craig and Maria Johnson.
The Lady Knights of River Ridge High School are located in Woodstock, Ga. The Lady Knights are much like the Lady Colonels.
River Ridge is coming in with a record of 8-3 after a 41-32 victory over Paulding County. Juniors Jordan Livesay and Rachel Psomas along with sophomores Jessica Baker and Jessica Mlaska lead the Lady Knights.
Jason Taylor, who is a 1997 graduate of Williamsburg High School where he lettered in basketball, football, cross-country and track, coaches River Ridge.
