The Corbin City Commission recently received updates from its fire and police departments during its regular December meeting.
“We have a new training facility next door. We are training daily. We have a good group,” Corbin Fire Chief Barry McDonald told the commission.
The fire department has 28 full-time or part-time firefighters, including McDonald, with several having a number of certifications.
A total of 18 firefighters are emergency medical technicians, two are paramedics, four are EMT instructors, six are CPR instructors, 20 are Kentucky state certified training officers, and 16 are state certified building inspectors/fire marshals.
A total of 25 firefighters are low/high angle rope technicians, 24 are confined space technicians, seven are trench rescue technicians, 23 are swift water technicians, five are structural collapse technicians and 24 are hazardous materials technicians.
Corbin Police Chief Rusty Hedrick reported that during the month of November, Corbin police answered 527 calls, investigated 65 collisions and issued 15 city ordinance violations for parking on Main Street.
He added that the department raised enough money this year to take 125 children shopping during the Corbin Police Department Shop with a Cop event, which was held on Dec. 16 at the Corbin Walmart.
