Corbin BOE votes to change calendar

Date:

The Corbin Board of Education voted to revise the district’s 2025-2026 school calendar during a brief special-called meeting on Feb. 9.

The Corbin Independent School District used all 10 of its Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) days this year due to winter weather and illness. As a result, the district needed to make up additional instructional time.

The board discussed different options and weighed the pros and cons.

Rather than lengthen the school year or use a day from Spring Break as an instructional day, they decided to make Presidents’ Day an instructional day and make the last day a full day.

By making the last day a full day, the district will recover additional instructional hours.

The board wanted to avoid taking away any Spring Break days since many families already have trips planned.

Board members expressed concerns about possible future weather closures and illness but noted the district still has several contingency days available if needed.

Before adjourning, Superintendent Travis Wilder commented on how the city managed road conditions during the winter storm.

“I would just like to openly thank the city and the county for the work that they did on the roads,” said Wilder. “It was a collective effort.”

“I want to thank Mayor Suzie Razmus and our staff,” said board member Paul Taylor. “They did a great job.”
