When classes resume at Corbin Independent Schools on Aug. 19, faculty, staff, students and visitors are encouraged to wear masks.
At a special called meeting of the Corbin Board of Education Thursday night, the board approved updated guidance on COVID–19 safety recommending that individuals follow the latest guidelines on masks and COVID–19 safety.
With the emergency of the delta variant causing a spike in the number COVID–19 cases, the Center for Disease Control and the Whitley County Health Department are recommending that individuals wear masks when in public places, such as schools.
In the statement released by the school system following the vote, officials noted that the decision on whether to follow the recommendations will be left to the discretion of the individual or the parents/guardians.
“We are not going to police it,” said Board Chair Kim Croley.
Superintendent Dave Cox said the board’s decision is in line with the majority of other school systems across Kentucky.
