The following is an update on the story appearing in the July 13 print edition about Corbin All-Star baseball teams competing in district tournaments…
Thursday night update: The Corbin Red 9-10 year-old All-Star team defeated Knox County 5-1 Thursday at Rotary Park, forcing a decisive game two Friday at 7:00 pm for all the marbles. These two teams will meet one last time to determine an undisputed District 4 champion, and also determine who will be going on to this year’s state tournament. See the July 20 edition of the News Journal for details.
Wednesday night update (CORRECTED): The Corbin Red 9-10 year-old All-Stars defeated Hazard-Perry 14-0 Wednesday, advancing them to Thursday’s District 4 championship game, scheduled for 7:00 pm at Rotary Park. Corbin will have to beat Knox County twice in the district finals. If a second game is required, it is scheduled to be played Friday at 7:00 pm.
In other news, the Corbin Junior League All-Stars now know who they will face in their first round game at this year’s state tournament in Prestonsburg. It will be Corbin versus Warren County this Saturday, July 16, at 10:00 am. Should they win, they will go on to face host Prestonsburg at 2:00 pm the following day.

MINOR LEAGUE UPDATE: Corbin Red fell for the first time Tuesday evening in a 4-1 loss to the Knox County All-Stars. They now face a rematch with Hazard-Perry in the championship game of the loser’s bracket. Should they win, they will get another shot at Knox later this week in the district finals. The News Journal will provide more updates as they become available.
JUNIOR LEAGUE UPDATE: North Laurel didn’t make it easy Tuesday, but Corbin is now your district champions, and they are headed to the Junior League state tournament in Prestonsburg. North won game one Tuesday 9-3, forcing a decisive game two for the championship. Corbin rose to the occasion, getting the 17-8 win and punching their tickets to state in the process. The News Journal will have more information on the upcoming Junior League state tourney when it becomes available.
