Colonel Fest returning to downtown Corbin this weekend

Date:

This Saturday, April 22, the Annual Colonel Fest will return to downtown Corbin, and Tourism Director Maggy Monhollen says that there will be something for everyone at this year’s event.

“It’s going to be huge,” Monhollen said. “There will be arts and crafts projects, a petting zoo with pony rides, games for kids, and inflatables.”

Monhollen also said that over 60 vendors are scheduled to be at this year’s Colonel Fest, many of them selling hand-crafted specialty items. In addition to that, she said that several different community organizations will also be present to offer activities and inform visitors about various important causes.

“This is a great way to celebrate our community, and the fact that we happen to be home to the famous Colonel Harland Sanders,” Monhollen said.

The festivities are scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m. Saturday, and go through 6 p.m. There will be a Chicken Cluckin’ and Struttin’ Contest near 1st Street at noon, followed by an egg toss game in Sanders Park at 12:30.

Other events scheduled for the festival include a magic show in Nibroc Park at 1 p.m., an ice cream eating contest at Sanders Park at 2 p.m., and the Corbin High School band is set to perform at 3 p.m.

At 3:30 p.m., the Finger Lickin’ Chicken .5k race will take place near Sanders Park, which will see participants “walk, run, or crawl” 820 feet, eat a piece of fried chicken, and then travel back 820 feet to the finish line.
