City of Corbin preparing to host several events in the coming weeks

Date:

Corbin officials are gearing up for a few high-profile events coming up next month.

During the Corbin City Commission’s monthly meeting Monday, Interim Corbin Tourism Executive Director Emily Roberts announced that Octoberfest is planned for Saturday, Oct. 11.

Roberts said that she is still expecting a big turnout for the event even though The Mint, Williamsburg and the Daniel Boone Festival in Barbourville all have events taking place that same day.

W.D. Byant & Son is setting up a photo op for the Corbin event.

Corbin’s Octoberfest will be held in conjunction with the final Cumberland Valley Cruise-In antique car and truck show of the season.

Corbin Downtown Manager Jacob Roan noted that the Downtown Corbin Witches’ Walk will take place once again on Thursday, Oct. 16.

Participants are encouraged to dress in their most witchy attire and wonder to participating locations for some ghoulie drink specials and treats.

“One of the more successful events that we had last year was the Witches Walk,” Roan said.

This will be an Entertainment Destination Center event, which means that people will be allowed to consume some alcohol outdoors in marked off areas during the event.

In addition, the Cumberland Arts Collective will be doing a night market on Thursday, Oct. 2.

Corbin officials are also welcoming various groups that are coming to town.

The Kentucky Association of Mitigation Managers is in town this week for a conference.

The BRIGHT leadership class will be coming to Corbin Oct. 1-3.

Corbin City Manager Scott Williamson added that he though the recent SOAR Conference, which was held in Corbin, went extremely well.

“I got a lot of very positive comments, and people wanting to come back,” Williamson said. “Jacob had a tremendous amount to do with that. Everybody did a lot. It was good. That was my first Corbin SOAR. I was really impressed.”

Roan said that Corbin officials took several notes on ways to improve the event in the future.

“I do think we will be lucky enough to host again in the near future. We have plenty to improve upon,” Roan added.

Also, during Monday’s meeting, Roberts announced that April Schweiss has been hired as the new assistant at Corbin Tourism. She has recently served as the Market Manager for the Whitley County Farmer’s Market.
