District competition continued among coverage area football teams this week. In Corbin, the Redhounds were able to make easy work of visiting Whitley County, 49-6. The Hounds now stand at 5-3 on the season, and are a perfect 2-0 against district opponents. The Colonels, meanwhile, drop to 1-7, 0-2. Next week, Corbin will look to finish out regular season district play with a perfect 3-0 record when they host the Perry County Central Commodores. The Corbin Redhounds went on the road for the first time since Sept. 12 to open up district play against the Harlan County Black Bears. Week 7 was a big one for two coverage area football teams, as the Corbin Redhounds hosted Johnson  Central in yet another high-profile encounter at Campbell Field and the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets returned to action for the first time since Sept. 12. The Hounds were coming off of a bye week, which means they had some extra time to prepare for the undefeated Golden Eagles of Johnson Central. The Lynn Camp Wildcats dominated visiting Jackson County in this year's Sav-Rite Home Care Bowl, while the Corbin Redhounds and Whitley County Colonels were defeated in week 5. The Wildcats cruised to a shutout win over the Jackson County Generals Friday, 51-0. The victory improves the Cats to 4-1 on the season. Next week, they will open up district play against the Middlesboro Yellow Jackets. Three out of the News Journal's four coverage area teams were defeated on the road in week 4. The Corbin Redhounds traveled to Somerset for a matchup against the Pulaski County Maroons where one team would taste defeat for the first time this season. It was a strange night for high school football Friday, with severe weather impacting many contests and one area team securing a victory via forfeit. Williamsburg was ready to host their season home opener in week 3 on Alumni Night and Homecoming Night, but a late cancellation by Frankfort resulted in the Yellow Jackets improving to 2-1 on the season via forfeit. Next week, the team is scheduled to go back on the road to compete at Sayre. Across town, the Whitley County Colonels were struggling against visiting Rockcastle County. The Corbin Redhounds went on the road Friday to face the North Laurel Jaguars in the late game of the Praxel Line Services Bowl. In year three of the Head Coach Darrell Hendrix era, the Lynn Camp Wildcats are once again hoping to put more marks in the win column and end the season with their first overall winning record since 2018.
