A Carlisle woman is now free on bond after allegedly stabbing a woman and biting a juvenile in southern Laurel County early Saturday morning.

Laurel County Sheriff’s Detective Tommy Houston and deputies Jared Hale, Robert Smith and Justin Lewis arrested Melissa K. Rich, 37, about 1:52 a.m. at a local hospital in connection with an event that apparently occurred off Tom Town Hollow Road approximately 10 miles south of London, according to a Laurel County Sheriff’s Department release.
The London-Laurel County 911 Communication Center dispatched deputies to a complaint that a female subject stabbed another female subject during an altercation, the release stated.
“When deputies made contact with the involved parties they learned that a verbal argument had allegedly led to a physical altercation where Melissa Rich allegedly stabbed a female subject several times in the left arm and back shoulder. During the altercation a juvenile was also allegedly bit on the left forearm by Rich,” the release stated.
It is unclear what the argument was over.
Houston charged Rich with first-degree assault and fourth-degree assault.
Rich was booked into the Laurel County Correctional Center at 4:08 a.m. Saturday and was released on a $2,500 cash bond at 8:48 p.m. Saturday, according to the correctional center’s website.
An Aug. 26 preliminary hearing has been scheduled in her case.
