Calvin Pennington, also known as Jay or J.C., age 86, of Williamsburg, Ky., departed this earthly life on December 13, 2023, at home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born April 11, 1937, in Leslie County, Ky., to the late Sylvania Bray Sizemore and Elbert Pennington.
He was saved by the blood of Jesus, baptized in the Holiness faith, in Harlan, Ky. in 1967, under the sound of Brother Ottas Hurley. He was a retired coal miner/operator/owner of multiple businesses.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was joined in matrimony to his sweetheart of 68 years, Roberta Pennington, on November 11, 1955, in Harlan, Ky.
J.C. was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Eddie Ray Pennington, and James Woodrow Pennington; two great-grandsons, Anthony Faulkner, and Greyson Messer; grandfather, Hamp Pennington; special aunt and uncle, Sadie Bray Vanzant and John Timothy Vanzant; brothers, Ira Sizemore, Oscar Hoskins, Lewis Pennington, and Timmy Sizemore; and sisters, Jean Baxter, Sally Robinson, and Bertha Sue Bott.
J.C. is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Roberta Pennington; sister, Bobbie Sizemore Elswick, of London, Ky.; children, Johnny Pennington, Lisa Messer, Karen (Jeff) Michaux and Sojna (Sonia) Askins, all of Williamsburg, Ky. and Sandra Bear of LaFollette, Tn.; 20 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren, who he adored and loved.
Funeral service was Sunday, December 17, at the Ellison Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Fee, Rev. Richard Long, and Rev. Roland Ayers officiating.
Interment was at Cedar Hills Family Cemetery in Williamsburg, Ky.
