MURDER INVESTIGATION

On January 14, 2025, Williamsburg Police were called to Mount Morgan Apartments about an unresponsive male in the parking lot, at 611 Brush Arbor Road. First arriving officers found a 61 year old male deceased. The male has been identified as Richard Cox, of Williamsburg. Preliminary investigation indicates, that Cox and another male, identified as Brian Randle, 41, got into a physical altercation, while trying to break up a fight between two dogs. Cox immediately died following the altercation.
Randle has been arrested and charged with Murder and lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center. WPD Officer Dorman Patrick Jr. (case officer) is leading the investigation and continues to investigate as more details become available.
Officers and entities assisting at the scene and with the investigation, included Officer Bryson Lawson, Sgt. Chad Foley, Sgt. Trevor Teague, Asst. Chief Bobby Freeman, Chief Jason Caddell, Sgt. Elijah Hunter, along with Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley, WCEMS, and the Office of the Whitley County Commonwealth’s Attorney.
Original: A physical altercation between two neighbors turned deadly Tuesday evening in Williamsburg.
Williamsburg Police were dispatched to Mt. Morgan Apartments on Brush Arbor Church Rd. to investigate a report of a man being beaten to death. According to Chief Jason Caddell, when police arrived at the scene, a man was found lying near a dumpster outside the apartment complex with multiple injuries and covered in blood.
Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley soon pronounced the man deceased at the scene. The neighbor accused of killing the man has been taken into custody and is being questioned by police.
The incident is being investigated as a homicide, according to Caddell.
Caddell also noted that no names of either men could be released at this time; however, he did confirm that the victim was elderly.
It has yet to be confirmed what sparked the altercation between the two men, though Caddell said that a preliminary investigation indicated that it involved a disagreement over dogs. No weapon was believed to have been used in the attack.
