Baptist Health Corbin appoints Dr. Abigail Byrnes as Chief Medical Officer

Date:

Baptist Health Corbin has announced Abigail Byrnes, MD, as the hospital’s permanent Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

In this role, Dr. Byrnes will serve as the primary physician leader for Baptist Health Corbin while also maintaining a clinical practice, devoting time to patient care. She will continue leading Baptist Health Corbin’s hematology/oncology practice while guiding hospital-wide medical initiatives to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.

“Dr. Byrnes has shown exceptional leadership and dedication to both our patients and our medical staff,” said Angelia Foster, President of Baptist Health Corbin. “During her time as interim CMO, she actively supported providers and staff while keeping our focus on patients and their needs. I look forward to our continued partnership and the incredible opportunities ahead for our hospital and community.”

Dr. Byrnes has been a valued member of the Baptist Health Corbin Medical Staff since 2014. Her leadership experience includes serving as Chief of Staff, Oncology Service Line Medical Director, and as a long-standing member of the Medical Executive Committee.

Her dual role as a physician leader and practicing hematologist/oncologist uniquely positions her to bring both clinical expertise and strong organizational leadership to Baptist Health Corbin.

“I am honored to serve Baptist Health Corbin in this capacity,” said Dr. Byrnes. “Our patients, providers, and staff inspire me every day, and I look forward to continuing our work together to provide compassionate, high-quality care for our community.”

Baptist Health Corbin extends appreciation to the hematology/oncology team for their support during Dr. Byrnes’ interim leadership and for their continued dedication to meeting the needs of patients across the region, the hospital wrote in a release.

Baptist Health Corbin is a 273-bed, acute care facility providing a wide variety of healthcare services to residents of Whitley, Knox, Laurel, Bell, Clay, Harlan and McCreary counties in Kentucky and Campbell County in Tennessee.
