SOFTBALL CLASSIC

Date:

The Whitley County First Priority Softball Classic will begin Friday night with a few changes. McCreary Central was added to the tournament earlier this week and the Lady Raiders will bring in an 8-6 record.

They will be joined by Simon Kenton (9-5), Harlan County (7-3), Clay County (10-2), South Laurel (10-3) and No. 21 ranked Franklin County (9-3). The Lady Flyers won the tournament back in 2007 when Whitley County and Corbin co-hosted the tournament under the name, Cumberland Falls Invitational.

Coach David Halcomb’s Whitley County Lady Colonels have a 7-10 record. Halcomb said, “This should be a very competitive tournament.”

Now sponsored by the Whitley County First Priority Club, it has a Christian atmosphere and is well run by Halcomb and his staff.

Games begin Friday (April 29) at 6 p.m. when the Lady Colonels host the Harlan County Lady Bears at the high school field. Simon Kenton and McCreary Central will follow at 7:30. On the Whitley County Middle School field, the Clay County Lady Tigers will take on the Franklin County Lady Flyers at 7 p.m.

Saturday’s schedule will start with South Laurel taking on Franklin County at 10 a.m., followed by Whitley County vs. Simon Kenton at 11:30. Simon Kenton will play Franklin County at 1 p.m. followed by Clay County and Whitley County at 2:30 p.m.

At the Middle School field, McCreary Central will play Harlan County at 10 a.m. followed by Harlan County vs. Clay County. South Laurel will take on McCreary Central at 1 p.m.

The teams will be seeded 1-7 for a single elimination portion of the tournament. That portion of the tournament will begin at 2:30 at the Whitley County Middle School Field.
