Travis Wilder officially installed as new CIS Superintendent

Date:

Corbin Superintendent Travis Wilder was officially appointed to his new position during the Corbin Board of Education meeting held on July 28 at the Corbin High School Media Center. At this meeting, it was also announced that Tonya Proffitt would take over his previous role as the principal of Corbin Primary School. Following the meeting, a reception was held to welcome Wilder.

Former Corbin Superintendent Dave Cox has announced that he has completed the interviews for the new principal of Corbin Primary School and, in his final act as Superintendent, has named Tonya Proffitt. Cox exclaimed, “I was very glad to do that. [She is] very well deserving and will continue to do good things going on.”

Tonya Proffitt taught fifth grade for 11 years, became assistant principal at Corbin Primary School for seven years, became instructional supervisor for the last two years, and is now principal.

Proffitt explained, “Corbin Primary School has such a wonderful culture there that I just plan to join arms and continue the good work. I want to create an engaging environment where kids are excited to come to school every day.”

Following Wilder’s signing of paperwork to wear the title of new Superintendent officially, the board began to reflect on Cox as Superintendent.

Board member Paul Taylor said, “It has been a privilege to get to work with you. You’ve been awesome to work with and did a great job and will definitely be missed.”

Board member Carcille Burchette said, “I’ve learned what a wonderful father he is. I got to work with him and realize what a good man he is.”

Board member Kim Croley said, “He is an amazing human. He has a very caring heart. If you’re Dave’s friend, you will always be Dave’s friend.”

Board member Ben Childers said, “You have taken us to new heights. I want everyone to publicly know that your leadership has gotten us to where we are, and you are a huge part of why we are the second-best district in the state. You’ve been a tremendous asset to the district, and you’re going to be missed.”

Following the meeting, a reception was held to welcome Travis Wilder as the new Superintendent.

Wilder explained, “My pledge to you is to give you my best each and every day to be the best Superintendent that I can be and serve you humbly. Thank you so much for this opportunity.” He finished his speech by saying, “Every day is great, but today, it’s a great day to be a Redhound.”

During the Corbin Board of Education meeting, the members discussed renovations to the track and gym floor. They mentioned that instead of replacing the gym floor, it has been reconditioned. Additionally, they announced the approval of new turf for the track, which will feature half-inch black turf as previously planned.
