50th District baseball/softball tournament brackets set
The brackets for the 2015 50th District baseball and softball tournaments were set at a Wednesday morning meeting at Williamsburg High School.
In baseball, the top seeded South Laurel Cardinals (21-4, 6-0) will face the four seed Yellow Jackets of Williamsburg (5-12, 1-5). That game is scheduled to take place Monday, May 18 at 5:30 p.m. At 8:00 p.m. on the 18th, the number two seed Corbin Redhounds (12-12, 3-3) will play the number three seed Whitley County Colonels (15-8, 2-4). The championship game of the baseball bracket is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19 at 6:30 p.m. All games will be played at Briar Creek Park in Williamsburg.
In softball, Williamsburg Head Coach Jason Prewitt and Whitley County Head Coach Todd Lawson had to flip a coin to determine who would be the number three and number four seeds going into this year’s district tourney. Both teams end the regular season with a 1-5 record in district play, and both of those wins came against each other. The final score of both contests was 4-3. Also, neither team would record a district road win in 2015. With all of the tie breakers void, the only possible way to determine seeding was by utlizing a coin toss. Prewitt, who coaches the host team, was allowed to call the toss. He called tails, but the coin landed on heades, making Lawson and the Lady Colonels the three seed.
As the four seed, Williamsburg (9-8, 1-5) will face top seeded South Laurel (21-8, 6-0) in the first round of the district tournament Monday, May 18 at 5:30 p.m. As the three seed, Whitley County (9-9, 1-5) will play the number two seeded Corbin Lady Redhounds (9-17, 4-2) at 8:00 p.m. on the 18th. The championship game of the softball bracket is also scheduled for Tuesday, May 19 at 6:30 p.m. All games will also be played at Briar Creek Park in Williamsburg.
