$25,000 cash bond set for Lily man arrested by drug task force

A Lily man is being held in the Whitley County Detention Center in lieu of a $25,000 cash bond after his arrest in Corbin by the Laurel County Drug Interdiction Task Force.

James Dakota Mayfield, 39, was arrested on May 20 at an Adkins Street residence in Corbin and charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (cocaine) and possession of marijuana, according to his arrest citation and a Laurel County Drug Interdiction Task Force release.

According to his arrest citation, on May 16 police made a controlled buy at an Adkins Street residence where Mayfield allegedly sold a substance believed to be cocaine. On May 20, police served a search warrant at an Adkins Street residence and found a bag with a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana inside his pants pocket.

Investigators reported seizing drugs, U.S. currency and a car from the search at the residence, according to the release.

As of 10 a.m. Friday, Mayfield remained incarcerated in the Whitley County Detention Center.

He is scheduled for a June 2 preliminary hearing in Whitley District Court.

Laurel Sheriff’s Detective Gary Jordan is the case officer. Other task force members involved in the case include Laurel Sheriff’s Detectives Bryon Lawson and Jake Miller, Laurel Drug Interdiction Unit Justin Taylor, and Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Jesse Smith.

Agencies assisting with the investigation and arrest included: Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Corbin Police Department, Barbourville Police Department.

Drug investigations will continue by the Laurel County Drug Interdiction Task Force.
