2024 highway fatalities increase in Whitley, Laurel counties, decrease in Knox

While highway fatalities in Kentucky decreased in 2024 to 707 deaths, which is down 107 compared to 2023, the number of highway fatalities in Whitley and Laurel counties have increased significantly in recent years while fatalities in Knox County have decreased each of the last four years, according a News Journal analysis of numbers from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s (KYTC) Office of Highway Safety and Kentucky State Police (KSP).
