Two men wounded in accidental shooting near Williamsburg Wednesday
Two Williamsburg men were injured Wednesday in what police are saying is an apparent accidental shooting.
According to Kentucky State Police Post 11 Public Affairs Officer Don Trosper, the incident happened on KY Hwy. 904 approximately four miles east of Williamsburg. KSP Troopers Tony Dingess and Les Moses responded to the scene and determined that Matthew N. Goins, 22, and William J. Bennett, 22, both suffered from a single gunshot wound each.
Police say the two men were target shooting with a handgun when it became jammed. During an effort to clear the weapon of the jam, it fired striking Goins in the hand and Bennett in the leg. Both were taken to Baptist Health Corbin for treatment of minor injuries.
Authorities say the incident was accidental and do not expect to file any criminal charges.
