Former Whitley Coroner, funeral home operator Jim Paul dies

One-time Whitley County Coroner and Ellison Funeral Home Director Jim Paul died at his home just outside Corbin early Wednesday evening.

"It's a terrible thing. It's just a tragedy," said Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell, who has known Paul since he was a young child. The cause of death is currently undetermined but no foul play is suspected, Harrell said.

Paul was found dead at his home about 7:20 p.m. Deputy Shawn Jackson and the Whitley County Coroner's Office is
investigating.

Paul served as Whitley County Coroner for about two years after the death of his father, Carl Paul, about a decade ago.

In addition to his work as a funeral home director, Paul was also founder of the Ken-Tenn Relief Team, which was formed after Hurricane Katrina.

The organization runs a warehouse at the old Nevisdale School that ministers to the less fortunate and it has provided suppplies to various diaster zones across the country.

Marie, I share your pain. Deepest sympathy. You all have been just like a part of the family for so long. Be strong. It's hardest for mothers who are also widows. Now you are even with me. Love and Caring, Carrie
