A Whitley County man is dead after a freak farming accident Thursday in the Rockholds area.
Crews from the Rockholds and Woodbine Volunteer Fire Departments, along with law enforcement officers, responded to the scene on Powers Road where a man was reportedly trapped underneath his tractor.
When crews arrived, they say the man was unresponsive and officials had to use two sets of the Jaws of Life just to get the tractor off the man.
"Apparently, the man had been changing the fuel filter on the tractor right before this happened," Woodbine Fire Chief Rick Fore said. "The tire rolled over him and the bush hog did as well. The blade was not moving on the bush hog when it rolled over him."
Though the man had not been positively identified, neighbors say it was 77-year-old James McNeil, who owns the property where the incident occurred.
Oak Grove, Rockholds and Woodbine volunteer fire departments responded to the scene, along with Whitley EMS and Whitley County Sheriff's Department._Funeral services for Mr. McNeil will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hart Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Smith Cemetery.
